How many times can I use your burs?
We strongly recommend single patient use for all burs. There are many reasons for this; drastically reduced amount of breakage, no lost staff time for the time consuming sterilisation process, elimination of cross contamination, AND YOU GET THE FASTEST, CLEANEST CUTTING BUR EVERY TIME. In fact after a single use and sterilisation process (i.e. cleaning, solution, autoclave) a bur will lose 20-40% of its cutting efficiency and increases its chance of breaking – not just with our burs, but with ALL burs.
Why does the Talon cut faster than other burs?
The design of the Talon is completely unique in the dental market. Instead of making the bur a straight cylinder with a round end, we added a sexy curve to the body of the bur. This curve increases the cutting speed and prevents the blades from clogging. Tri Hawk also uses a unique blend of Tungsten Carbide which allows us to make the blades sharper and last longer than any other bur. We also use straight blades whereas almost everybody else offer a crosscut bur (little saw-like teeth). Cross-cut burs dull faster because the little teeth of bur often break off reducing the amount of blade surface and throwing the bur out of balance.
Will the Talon cut through Zirconia?
The short answer is No. Zirconia is meant to last forever, but the underlying tooth structure does not. Removing it is difficult, as the science hasn’t caught up with the business of dentistry. Zirconia is harder than Tungsten Carbide so the blades of even the Talon cannot cut it. We have developed a special Super Coarse diamond line of burs for Zirconia and other hard ceramics: Tri Hawk X-Series diamond bur are what you need for this difficult task.
Should I use an electric or air driven hand piece?
Every clinic and dentist will have their preference. Our burs work very well with both air driven and electric hand pieces. Through our extensive testing we have found that our burs are at their very best when used with an electric 1:5 red ring hand piece. The benefit of an electric hand piece is that it has higher torque which means they lose less speed on contact. It is very important to note that with Tri Hawk burs the less pressure you apply the better the bur performs. LET THE BUR DO THE WORK FOR YOU!
At what speed should I run my hand piece?
It is best to follow the indications of your individual hand piece. More importantly, we recommend doing routine maintenance of both the handpiece, the compressor and the air lines. Remember that most manufacturers require a lubrication of the chuck and turbine before each use.
Why should I buy a Tri Hawk bur when I can buy a competing brand for less?
- The short answer is that Tri Hawk burs cut faster and break much less often. We increase the surface area of our weld to maximise the bond strength between the head of the bur and the shank. This is especially effective for our smaller burs such as the 330, 245 and 557.
- Our competitors typically offer cross cut burs for crown and bridge removal. When the saw-teeth dull or break, the cutting ability drops dramatically. The Talon on the other hand, uses blades, which carve through the metal and porcelain at the same time. The secret is to tilt the bur to a 30º angle, like a pencil tip, which allows you to cut tough materials like a hot knife slides through butter. If you normally use two burs, the Talon reduces your procedure to one step. You are spending less money, and much less time!
Where do you manufacture Tri Hawk burs?
Our manufacturing facility is in Canada- we do not import from China. Not only is our labour highly skilled, they are highly trained with a focus on excellence and quality. For our raw materials, we use high grade metal from Switzerland, but the actual tooling of the burs is entirely completed in Canada.
Do you have any documentation/tests that validate your quality?
Yes, we have hundreds of customer testimonials, ADA study 2006, Dental Advisor 2008 and Dental Product Shopper 2011, CRA December 2015
Do you have any documentation/tests that validate your quality?
Yes, we have hundreds of customer testimonials, ADA study 2006, Dental Advisor 2008 and Dental Product Shopper 2011, CRA December 2015. We are also ISO 13485 certified, FDA, CMDCAS (Canada), CE (Europe), GOST (Russia) and ANVISA (Brazil). And we take these strict requirements to another level to make sure that all of our products are the absolute best before they go out our door.
How can I obtain the same results as you show in your videos?
All of our videos have 1 thing in common: the secret is to tilt the bur to a 30º angle, like a pencil tip, which allows you to cut tough materials, like a hot knife slides through butter. Make sure your hand piece is well maintained, and DO NOT APPLY ANY PRESSURE…The Talon will do the work for you!
Removing old crowns can be time consuming and difficult, do you have anything that will speed up this procedure?
Yes, the Talon. It is our flagship product. One of our videos shows the Talon cutting through 5 crowns in 45 seconds. The secret is to tilt the bur to a 30º angle, like a pencil tip, which allows you to cut tough materials, like a hot knife slides through butter.
Do your burs break? This is a big problem with carbide burs.
Our goal is to make the unbreakable bur. To achieve this we take the ISO standards to another level. Our burs are subjected to forces up to 5 times higher than specified by ISO. We also incorporate up to 10 quality control tests to make sure that the final packaged bur is the absolute best we can produce
What do you offer to cut zirconia/eMax?
Our X-Series diamonds 198-018XC and 141-014XC are made from 100% natural diamond. The EXTRA coarse particles combined with our strong and consistent bonding provide you with a fast cutting bur which lasts
What makes the Talon stronger? Why are your burs stronger?
The Talon, like all of our burs is manufactured with a specially designed blend of Tungsten Carbide which increases the strength of the bur and allows for an almost perfect bond during our innovative welding process. Tri Hawk has unique, shank, head, blade designs so from start to finish you get a unique bur that is strong enough for any job.
Can the Talon: a) cut semi-precious metals? b) cut titanium posts?, c) be used to cut dentin, ie. Cavity prep?
The Talon bur can cut any material found in the dental industry except for the super hard ceramics like zirconia and lithium di-silicates. Materials that the Talon eats for lunch include: precious and non-precious metals, any metallic alloy, amalgam, Titanium, porcelain, enamel and of course Dentin.
