Instructions for Use

Congratulations...

You have just received the sharpest and fastest cutting bur that you have ever used. In order for the TRI HAWK bur to perform as designed:

  • To be used with air turbine or red ring contra angle hand pieces.
  • Please make sure that your hand piece has been properly calibrated or balanced and is “true running” to prevent the bur from whipping and breaking.
  • Please make sure your hand piece is running at full speed before the bur contacts tooth structure or other materials. Your hand piece should run at the maximum speed recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Warning: Do not extend bur from chuck. Loose or extended burs could eject from the chuck or break and cause personal injury. Do not exceed the hand piece air pressure recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Insert bur all the way to the end in hand piece chuck. Burs over 23mm (0.906 inches) in length should only be used per hand piece manufacturers instructions. Burs must be securely tightened in hand piece chuck.
  • Remember, aggressive or faster cutting burs require a very light touch. A feather touch! No pressure!
  • Use the bur ONCE and throw it away just as you would a needle or scalpel. All brands of burs are compromised after the first use.
  • Note: Multiple usages and sterilization drastically reduce cutting performance and greatly increase the likelihood of breakage/fracture for ALL burs.

Sterilization: Sterilization of carbide burs and other instruments used in or near the oral cavity is part of the infection control guidelines Proper sterilization of carbide burs is extremely important. While Steam Autoclave is the most common method of sterilization and can be used according to the instructions provided by the equipment manufacturer this method is not recommended for carbide dental burs as it both dulls the blades of the bur and increases the breakage rates. Tri Hawk recommends use of dry heat or chemical sterilizer. To sterilize follow the recommended procedure of the manufacturer of the sterilization equipment. It is the users’ responsibility to ensure effective sterilization. After sterilization dry the bur & store in a moisture free environment, failure to do so could damage the bur.

Note: Do not use any of the Cold Sterilizing Solutions for the sterilization of burs. These agents often contain strong oxidizing chemicals that may dull and weaken carbide burs. Most importantly, only the heat or heat-pressure systems discussed above can be monitored via biological and chemical indicators to assure sterilization has, in fact, been achieved.
